A clothing store manager from Brisbane, spending more than three years in jail for sexual assaults on the workplace, was expected to carry on with six months more of imprisonment but was acquitted as his defense counsel proved his client went through rough time in prison.
Osman Ahmadyar, a 34-year-old refugee from Afghanistan who worked in Skunkwear clothing store in Albert Street was offending three of his female employees during five month of the work. Later, women had to quit the job because of sexual assaults, but one of them had to return being pressed for money.
Two of the girls, 17 and 18 year old, had to endure sex offenses, while Ahmadyar took them by force and asked them to serve his sexual urges. He also threatened them to keep his actions in secret.
Although the Brisbane's District Court sentenced the manager to six months of imprisonment, the latter was set free on the condition that he won't repeat his mistakes.
The defense counsel was quite persuasive to argue that his client spend tough time in prison resulting in serious stress for him as his family had to return back home to Afganistan. It was also said that Ahmadyar become "mute" after traumatic experience in prison and difficult period spend in his homeland five years ago where he was abused by Taliban.
However, after Judge Phillip Nase suspended, Ahmadyar didn't show any signs of muteness or regret on his behavior.
